| TOPIC #1 - THE HEALTHCARE SHOWDOWN - Last month we talked about the government’s plan to take the Commerce Clause to places it was never intended to go. Now the role of government is in the Supreme Court’s hands. A decision is expected at the end of June. A recent survey shows that 72% of Americans believe the healthcare reform bill is unconstitutional. 50% of Democrats agree. TOPIC #2 – THE US HOUSE TAKES on OBAMACARE. (A) On March 23, the US House debated the bill put forth by Rep. Phil Roe (of Tennessee) – the “Medicare Decisions Accountability Act” (H.R. 452), which would repeal Obamacare’s Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), famously known as the “Death Panel.” The IPAB is the unelected, unaccountable board or panel of bureaucrats, created by ObamaCare, and it is the second most repulsive part of the healthcare reform bill next to the Individual Mandate. The House voted 223-181 in favor of the bill – to get rid of the panel. Let’s hope the Senate affirms. Under the federal health care law, the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) would be tasked with keeping Medicare costs down — and that could mean going so far as rationing health care – if the 15 appointed members don’t feel certain treatments or services are warranted. The IPAB posed the greatest risk to seniors, which would be the group targeted by rationed care. The bill will also curb junk lawsuits and defensive medicine that drive up health care costs.
(B) Rep. Todd Rokita (of Indiana) has introduced a bill called “The State Health Flexibility Act of 2012” (H.R. 4160), which would send federal funds for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) directly to the states in the form of block grants. Giving the states direct control over their health care funding allows each state to customize its programs according to the needs of its own citizens. In order to implement these block grants, the bill provides that Obamacare must first be fully repealed. A similar program of block grants was used to successfully reform welfare in the 1990s, and the Congressional Budget Office has scored this bill as saving $2 trillion compared to Obamacare.
(C) Rep. Paul Broun (of Georgia), also a physician, will soon introduce the most comprehensive and effective plan to repeal and replace Obamacare that has yet been released. His bill, called the “Patient OPTION Act,” will fully repeal Obamacare and introduce common sense, free-market reforms into health care such as: making all personal medical expenses (including insurance) tax deductible, improving Health Savings Accounts, and moving to a premium-support model for Medicare.
(D) Also, with respect to Obamacare, abortion will be federally subsidized through insurance exchanges, just as family watchdog groups predicted two years ago.
TOPIC #3 - THE BUDGET –
On March 20, Paul Ryan announced a new budget proposal. While details have not yet been released, this new budget is expected to be even stronger than last year’s proposal. The bill is expected to include major reforms to Medicare and taxes. See http://www.roadmap.republicans.budget.house.gov/
TOPIC #4 - GOVERNMENT & SLAVERY -
(The following was taken from an email that was going around, but it touches on something very important).
When economic hard times fell upon Egypt , the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.
So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock – their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year.
But the famine wasn’t over. So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. “There is nothing left in the sight of my Lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh.” So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh’s government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.
There is a lesson to be learned … That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery? The only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?
We see the same thing happening today – the government today wants to “share the wealth” once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago – as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.
A lot of people like to call Obama a “Messiah.” A savior. The black community looks to him as their ‘savior.’
Obama is no savior. No messiah. If he is like any character from this Bible story, then is like the Pharoah. What the Obama administration is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh’s government did then, and it will end the same.
We need to trust in God. We also need to trust in one another. Not government.
TOPIC #5 - AGENDA 21 -
Agenda 21 is a sustainability initiative that is touted by many governmental officials as a means of creating a sustainable existence for the world. In reality, it is a comprehensive UN initiative to regulate land and human activity. Agenda 21 encompasses policies and an ideology that are completely against everything we stand for as a free nation.
Ronald Reagan once said: “It doesn’t require expropriation or confiscation of private property or business to impose socialism on a people. What does it mean whether you hold the deed to the — or the title to your business or property if the government holds the power of life and death over that business or property? And such machinery already exists…” The machinery today is known as Agenda 21, an all-encompassing UN plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment. It is being sold to us, innocuously, harmlessly, innocently, as a plan for sustainable development and living.
Agenda 21 is an all-encompassing UN plan for the take-over of the world in a One World Government scheme focused on phony science to “save the environment” by placing nature above man. It is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment. It is being sold to us, innocuously, harmlessly, innocently, as a plan for sustainable development and living.
TOPIC #6 - LIBERALISM at the BENCH –
We all know about the two schools of thought in this country - liberal versus conservative. Liberals don’t believe in being constrained by the Constitution and conservatives want to conserve our founding principles and values, our founding institutions, and above all, the rules set out in the Constitution for governing the people.
“Conservatives hate liberals because they don’t follow the Constitution, and Liberals hate conservatives because they do.”
When I attended my annual Continuing Legal Education seminar at Chapel Hill in February, I was reminded just how liberal law schools are, and especially UNC- Chapel Hill. These schools are turning out the lawyers who will become tomorrow’s judges, will sit on Presidential councils, and become our future Supreme Court justices. It’s no wonder the unborn have no constitutional rights and homosexual couples can be included in the class of persons that the institution of marriage was intended to unite. It’s no wonder that the right of a single atheist not to be uncomfortable over the sight of a nativity scene or the words of a prayer trumps the rights of the great majority of Christians to invoke their religion.
So here is something extremely troubling. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg was interviewed recently and she said that if she had her way, she would like to have some of the 5-4 conservative decisions re-visited by the Supreme Court “after Obama wins his second term and is able to make a few appointments to the bench. One case in particular she would like revisited is the Heller case (The District of Columbia v. Heller – 2008) — which was the first time in over 70 years that the Supreme Court heard a case on the meaning of the Second Amendment. The Court held that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm. The important thing to note here is that it was a 5-4 decision, with every liberal justice believing that an individual has no such right under the Second Amendment. According to these Justices, the Second Amendment only protects the rights of individuals to bear arms as part of a well-regulated state militia.
The second amendment is part of the first nine amendments of the Bill of Rights – which deal with INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS.
And that brings me to the point I really want to make – If Obama is re-elected, he will have a chance to appoint more liberals to the Supreme Court, and then we are in serious trouble. We may very well lose our second amendment right to protect ourselves from harm and even from our own government. The right of self-defense is one of the first laws of nature, if not the very first. A man with a gun is a citizen. A man without a gun is a subject. If the government gets its way and redefines the second amendment, then `gun control’ becomes nothing more than `victim disarmament.” It results in total subjugation of the American people because when only cops have guns, it’s called a “police state”.
Consider the scenario. The Court is supposed to be the tribunal that declares a law that exceeds the powers granted under the Constitution unconstitutional and therefore null and void. That was Alexander Hamilton’s view — that the Courts would make things right. But since the Supreme Court itself is part of the government (not a tribunal empowered by the States’) and because liberals appoint Justices to think like them instead of being impartial and faithful interpreters of the Constitution, then hasn’t the Court become part of the problem?
If Obama is re-elected, he will have his mental minions, his ideological counterparts on the highest court of the land. And that should scare everyone of us.
In Federalist #47 Madison states that “the accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”
Consider this thought: Maybe liberty can’t survive. Maybe it is inherently destructive of its own ends.
ELECTION MESSAGE: WHAT IS AT STAKE?
Gerald Molen, producer of the Academy-award winning movie “Schindler’s List” wrote this:
“If you listen carefully you will recognize the woeful sounds of America gasping for its very breath of life and its inner soul. Yes, the sounds are there. We just don’t listen. We only hear (or see) what we want. As the country gasps for clarity of purpose, we the people figure someone or something else will come along and fix the problems for us. The warning signs have been there for a long time. As a country we have been either asleep or just too comfortable in our own cocoons to realize the depth of our plight.
An event took place in 2008 that changed the world we live in. It changed the face of America, it changed the direction of our moral values, it changed how we view the future and how we see ourselves as human beings and it changed the make-up of our basic freedoms that we so irreverently tossed aside for entitlement freebies and empty promises by the engineers at the helm.
As we sit at the precipice of financial collapse from debt and entitlements, how much time do we have? Can we reverse course? What can we as individuals do? Who best to bring us back from the brink? Or are we too late?
We put a man in office, a man not really qualified to be a dog catcher, much less the most powerful man in the world. We refused to listen to what he was saying. We missed the first gasp of incredulity when he promised to transform America. Oh, we bought into the cliche’ed slogans of “hope and change.” We liked his smile, his ability to read from a teleprompter, his super-friendly demeanor and his charismatic oratorical skills.
But our ears failed us. Our eyes failed us. We failed to hear that horrific sucking sound of our falling into the vortex of calm voices pushing us ever so gently but with assured and deft platitudes, into the hell of our own making.
We found that the dreaded four-letter word that could burn the eardrums of a sweet mother or even a hard-hearted father did not start with the letter ‘F.’ No, no … that would have been too simple. There are worse four-letter words that not only burn the eardrums but they singe the soul. They change life as we know it. They create an environment of hell on earth. And alas, sometimes they come wrapped in the promises of easy living, free lunches forever and fun times at the social picnic. But as the wrappings are peeled away and truth is revealed, and we see the four-letter words that imprison us with our own trappings. They become clear and defined. They are “fear and envy” and the worst four letter word of all, “hate.”
Hate fuels the fear and the envy, and these then become the best tools of class warfare. Class warfare is then used to take our basic freedoms away from us.”
What Mr. Molen is talking about is enormous absence of judgment we used as a nation in electing a man to the Presidency who has no experience and no understanding of or respect for the Constitution as the law of the land. Running under the slogan of “Hope and “Change,” what he really wanted was to achieve is the total and fundamental transformation of our country. We learned this for the first time perhaps in April 2009 when President Obama offered his thoughts on the US economy in a speech he delivered at Georgetown University. He talked about his vision of America’s future that is “far different than our troubled economic past….’ He talked about his new ‘foundation’ and the task he faced of re-building this country, according to the policies that his administration designed. He used such words as “reform” and “transform.” He talked about needing “new legal authority” to make the changes necessary. He said that the Reagan model (that is, of limited government) was not a sustainable model for long-term prosperity.”
And so this with this election of 2012, we stand between the forces that wish to ‘transform’ America and the forces that wish to ‘restore’ her. We all know that transformation implies a contempt or dissatisfaction, whereas restoration implies honor and respect.
But we first have to wean people off of their dependence on government. People who prefer a government to offer all solutions is one that is prepared for a master, and deserves one.
It’s no secret that the size and scope of government has dramatically increased. For example, in the last decade, private sector jobs increased by only 1%. Federal jobs, on the other hand, increased by more than 15%. The fact is that while people were losing their jobs and families were struggling to keep their homes and put food on their tables, government was growing. And while ordinary folks, like all of us, just wanted to work and protect and build our businesses, Congress used the recession to grow government. Republicans and Democrats were both complicit. When the recession started – in mid 2008, the Department of Defense, for example, only had 1850 employees making a salary of over $150,000. Now it has over 10,000 employees making that much. Since 2009, the number of federal employees who earn more than $100,000 has more than doubled. The average total compensation of a private sector employee (that’s salary + benefits) in 2009 was $61,000. The average total compensation of a federal employee in 2009 was $123,000 — more than double.
Do you think these people will vote for spending cuts? Do you think they’ll vote to eliminate government jobs and therefore decrease the size of government? There are approximately 21,300,000 government employees in this country right now. That’s about 16% of the voting population. 16% of Americans work for government. Most people have at least one person close to them – a spouse, a parent, a child – who holds such a job and will therefore most likely vote with them so they can keep their job… especially in this economy. So that means that at least 32% of voters will come out and vote for any candidate that is opposed to funding cuts. When that number reaches 50%, then its GAME OVER. Big government will be here to stay and the fundamental transformation of government, which many fear will threaten individual liberty, will have taken place…… not by rebellion, not by protest.. but by stealth.
200 years ago, our Founders pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to pursue the course for liberty. Sadly, today our votes are often motivated by personal financial interests. We talk so much about special interests groups, but the federal government is its own special interest. And again, both parties are to blame. Ronald Reagan noted: “No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. So, government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.”
